Youngstown State University seeks propoals for BLACK MONDAY <\/span>a 50th anniversary symposium <\/span>to be held September 13, 2027 at the <\/span>Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor, <\/span>Youngstown, Ohio.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On \u201cBlack Monday,\u201d September 19, 1977, Youngstown\u2019s largest steel mill closed without warning. Five thousand workers lost their jobs and the city was forever changed. From Youngstown, the \u201cRust Belt\u201d was born. Now, 50 years later, it is time for remembrance and reflection on this critical moment in Midwestern history.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This symposium seeks to bring together a variety of scholars whose work investigates themes related to deindustrialization and its ongoing impacts on American life. Proposals from all eras and fields relative to the theme are welcome. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Proceedings will be considered for publication with Ohio Valley History Journal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
